Being a native English speaking student in a monolingual country has its fair of struggles. Especially if that country’s culture can be easily identified as the complete opposite of yours. Having to adjust to the culture, the food, and the systems are hard enough but to learn the language in a weeks time! That’s a task only people with persistent hearts can achieve – much like this student from Waseda University. 

“A Message, From One English Speaker to Another, on Japanese” is a story of an international student’s struggles, triumphs, and lessons in learning Japanese. The student staff leader s her experiences starting from her first day in comprehensive Japanese level 1 class to the life lessons she learned during her cross-cultural challenge.

She writes:

Yet, throughout all the hardships, I would not take a single moment back because these experiences made me stronger and all-in-all benefited me greatly.
